Native Prayers in a Natural Cathedral
This image is a composite of the most memorable images at the Little Spearfish Falls this winter. The back lit, heavily frosted tree branches came from a day when I visited late in the morning. The waterfall with complete icing was taken another day, early in the morning before the ice could warm and break off. The prayer bundles ( the small red items on the right side of the photo) were found the first morning. They are filled with herbs and are part of the Sioux culture. They are commonly placed near the sacred Bear Butte, but were an unexpected "find" here. These prayer bundles turned the falls area into a "natural cathedral" forever in my mind.
